Our ebike conversion kits are a great way to upgrade a bike you already love, whether it’s for commuting, leisure riding, or tackling Christchurch’s hills with ease.

Frequently asked questions:

Can any bike be converted to electric?

Many can, but not all. Suitability will depend on intended use, but generally we are looking for three main things: 

1. Frame shape - Is there enough space in the frame to mount a battery? 
2. Quality of brakes - Does the bike have disk brakes? 
3. Bottom bracket size - Does the bike have an average size bottom bracket?

In many cases, we will need to see the bike before we can give our answer. Feel free to send us a photo of your bike if you have any questions about specific compatibility.

Is it cheaper to convert a bike to electric rather than buying a new ebike?

In many cases yes. If you have an existing bike that fits you well, suits your needs, and is in good condition, a conversion kit would be cheaper.

This is especially the case if your 'donor' bike has high-end components that may not be found on ebikes at a pricepoint you are looking for. Some people even purchase a new 'analogue' bike with the intention of putting a kit on it for that reason. 

Times where it may not be cheaper to convert are when an older bike needs substantial repair work or upgrades to bring it up to a safe standard. The most common example is when a bike needs to be converted to disk brakes. 

Do you do the installation and servicing?

Yes! We can install, service, and repair Converted Bafang systems in our workshop.

Installation is included with the cost of the kit, though incidentals like longer cables and consumable parts like brake pads may be needed. We will advise you if this is required.

We are also able to do the 10,000km motor service in-house. 

Can you service my non-Converted brand Bafang motor?

Probably not. This is due to the varied access of spare parts that can exist from brand to brand. Since Converted kits are the only Bafang motors we sell, we don't have a large catalogue of replacement parts.

We do not service, diagnose, or repair any hub drive motor, or hub drive ebikes that have been purchased through independent or direct import channels.
